When most of the weddings that brought us to New England for the summer were canceled, we decided to stick with the plan and give ourselves the same amount of time to explore our homeland. COVID was our other great motivator to spend this time in the northeast because the infection rates have generally been lower around here. We just wrapped up four full months in New England and are now slowly—cautiously—moving south. I can't believe it's already been one-third of a year since we left Austin and moved...

Preface: 13 months ago, we packed everything into two suitcases apiece and moved across the pond from Austin, Texas to Dublin, Ireland. It all started the summer prior when Aidan (whose dad is from Co. Mayo) applied for his Irish passport and we took a trip there to visit their family. Kind of like the guy or gal next door you never expected to fall madly in love with until, one day, you were sitting on the bleachers together after all the football players and cheerleaders had gone home,...

Preface: Visiting the Swiss Alps is an existential crisis. You walk slowly, always looking over your shoulder to find yet another breathtaking view, asking yourself if you’ll ever go anywhere more beautiful and whether it’s even worth trying. The air and the water are so fresh, you expect everything will feel dirty when you return home. Even the busiest towns are quiet and peaceful. Riding on trains through towering snow-capped mountains and past the purest turquoise lakes, you wonder how this beauty has been preserved - like a...

Preface: If you’re planning a trip to Ireland that is less than a week long, and we can’t convince you to extend your stay, you should absolutely head out west. Dublin is a fabulous city, but you can pretty much cover it all in two days. We highly recommend taking two days (or more) to venture out to the west coast and spend nights in Galway and Doolin. Note: If you can find an affordable flight in or out of Shannon airport, this puts you in...

Preface: We spent the second weekend in March in Budapest and were graced with miraculously beautiful, sunny days in the low 60s (15 Celsius) which we know is not the norm and we thank our lucky stars. Aidan worked remotely during the day on Monday and I came down with a ferocious cold, so our long weekend of activities could easily be tackled in two healthy, work-free days. That said, we got to do more coffee shopping, sleeping in, and aimless wandering than we normally do while traveling,...

Preface: We made this epic tour of Northern Ireland with Aidan’s sister Maddy on our way to the West of Ireland from Dublin, but you can also loop back to Dublin from Derry by adding in one night in central Ireland in between. This tour requires a lot of driving (shout out to Aidan) and the Torr Road is the tiniest, windiest cliffside adventure, only suited for someone who loves challenging driving. We did this trip in mid-June and highly recommend spring or summer for this...

Preface: We only had about 40 sweet hours in Nashville on our road trip from Austin to Boston, and this is definitely a city you want to spend more time in if you can. We had an awesome time, and this short & sweet itinerary can be woven into a visit of any length! We stopped by in July when the weather was mighty fine for outdoor activities, but you would have a blast anytime.
